Advanced Pedestrian Perception

Master Project/Master Thesis (Ref.Nr. E_082)

In the recent years research in autonomous vehicles in complex and uncertain environments has become one of the biggest drivers of the whole engineering research community. An autonomous vehicle should find in each situation a compromise in risk taking between the safety and traffic flow. Especially in urban environments with pedestrians the vehicle should move safely, but not hinder the traffic flow. Especially in situations with pedestrians the vehicle has to find safe decisions for motion planning. Therefore it is necessary to have realistic pedestrian movement models. We search for a student who like to program pedestrian models from realistic movements.

Your definition of the task priorities:

  • Develop algorithms for human movement perception and semantic labeling
  • Statistical inference, localization and state estimation of the pedestrian movements
  • Programming in OpenCV/Matlab and Python

What we expect:

  • Study: computer science, electrical engineering, telematics, informatics or equivalent
  • Knowledge in Matlab, C++ and PythonAbility to work independently, solution competence, responsibility and high motivation in programming
  • Interest and basic knowledge of at least one of the fields: Machine learning and computer vision
